Hush Alternative for Mac: Aulio Studio Compared
Updated: May 2026
What Hush does and does well
Hush is a Mac app focused specifically on background noise removal. It is good at what it does: drop a file in, get a denoised file back. The interface is minimal by design -- if noise removal is the one thing you need and you want to do it quickly, Hush is a reasonable tool. It runs on-device, which means your audio stays on your Mac and processing is fast.
The pricing model at time of writing is a one-time purchase, and the app is genuinely lightweight. For occasional use when noise removal is the only problem you have, it is a solid single-purpose tool.
Where the feature gap opens up
Hush does noise removal. That is its scope. The workflow most creators actually have is longer: clean the noise, review and cut filler words, trim long silences, apply EQ or a sound style, normalize loudness to -16 LUFS for Spotify or -23 LUFS for broadcast, get a transcript, and export. Hush handles the first step. Everything else requires additional tools or manual work.
Aulio Studio handles the complete flow in a single app:
- Neural noise reduction (same on-device approach as Hush)
- Filler word detection and review -- um, uh, like, you know, and custom words
- Stutter and false start removal
- Silence trimming with configurable gap targets
- EQ sound styles (Natural, Clarity, Warm, Broadcast, Studio)
- Reverb, echo, and warmth effects with live preview
- Loudness normalization to any LUFS target
- Transcription in 99 languages
- Transcript-based clip export: select text, export that audio segment
- Batch processing
- Video file support (MP4, MOV)

Who should stick with Hush vs. upgrade to Aulio Studio
Stick with Hush if: You record clean audio to begin with and only need occasional noise removal. Your recordings have no filler problem. You are not producing a regular podcast or YouTube channel, and noise removal alone covers your entire workflow. Note: at $99, Hush actually costs more than Aulio Studio.
Use Aulio Studio if: You produce audio regularly. You have a filler word problem (most people do, and most people underestimate its density). You need transcripts. You want to review and approve edits before they are applied. You occasionally record video. You process more than a few files per month.
Aulio Studio has a 10-day free trial with full features. If you are already a Hush user, it is worth running both on the same recording to compare.
